5 Techniques to Relax the Tongue
KAAGARI – Natural Talent Coaching & Training
Our tongue is a muscular organ, and consciously relaxing it will help us free our vocal expression!
This beautiful, powerful muscle has various functions such as articulation, swallowing, phonation, taste, breathing, postural regulation, and many more words ending with ‘-tion’.😉
So, to start: where is your tongue right now? Inside? Outside?
Thanks to our tongue, we work on certain vocal techniques depending on what we’re aiming for. So, first of all, let’s become aware that it is right there!
Here are 5 techniques for you!
1/ Become aware that your tongue is right there by moving it, gently biting it (not too hard though), or by sticking it out, for example.
2/ Stick your tongue out as far as possible without moving your jaw to let it get some air, then curl it up like a yoga mat, and finally relax it completely inside your mouth. Repeat this five times in a row, slowly, always doing the exercise mindfully and continuing to breathe naturally.
3/ With the tip of your tongue, gently stroke your palate by making movements from front to back and back to front five times, then five more times! (This exercise may tickle a little, depending on the person).
4/ Now, close your lips and run your tongue over your teeth as if cleaning them, making circular movements and really stretching your muscle—the tongue. Three times in one direction, then three times in the other. (Not very glamorous, but we’re here to practice, right?).
5/ Finally, completely relax your tongue inside your mouth and welcome every sensation — observe, feel, sense.
All of it, free from judgment.
The main thing.
And above all, we’re here to feel good; this should never be a painful moment. Let’s be gentle with our tongue because it deserves it!
Let those who vibrate, follow me!
