7 keys to prepare for your voice recording session in the studio!
Mélanie Champelovier – Natural Talent Coaching & Training
Preparing for a voice recording in the studio is essential. Whether it’s for recording a song, a podcast, an interview, a voice-over, a poem, an audiobook, a show, a training session… Yes! It requires real mental and physical preparation. So let’s go over 7 keys to preparing for a studio voice recording!
1 / KNOW
Before the big day, KNOW your text by heart, which includes: the lyrics, rhythm, breaths, pauses, and the emotions that accompany your words. Practice, practice, practice, and do it “as if.
2 / DIMINISH
Learn to soften the “P, B, T, S” sounds to avoid sharp impacts and hissing noises during the recording.
3 / SLEEP
Just before the big day, sleep well and avoid alcohol and cigarettes.
4 / BE PRESENT
Choose times when you feel available and energetic for the recording session, and avoid exceeding 4 hours to prevent straining your voice! A poetic post on the present.
5 / RELAX
To avoid mouth noises, breathe, breathe, breathe, relax, and accept stress so it can pass (whether good or bad stress, both cause excessive salivation). To help, you can eat an apple and drink water.
6 / BREATHE
Wear clothes that won’t restrict your airflow and that make you feel comfortable. Be able to inhale and exhale naturally. A post on breathing.
7 / PLAY
The most important part, I’d say 😉 HAVE FUN. The joy of doing it makes recording and memorizing much easier 🙂
Recording in a studio requires practice, and once again, the more you practice, the more enjoyable the experience becomes!
Now, it’s your turn!
